After exclusion of the previous syndromes, and in the absence
of brain stem reflexes, brain death in deeply comatose patients
should be established through the following criteria:
1. Irreversible coma
2. Absence of brain stem reflexes
3. Absence of spontaneous respiration (Wood 2004)
